I am still in awe, yes, shock and awe. I have had the privilege of seeing Trie so many times, however this time I am compelled to share, or somehow document the past 48 hours of wonderful magic. The venue FABRIK in Hamburg is a fantastic old munitions factory that was bombed, abandoned, burned and turned into a club. It is a very interesting tall space, with big skylights. As the band was doing sound check they were illuminated by the light rays from the clear perfect day in Hamburg. The context then was perfect, Tribe after Tribe, playing in a space made for war, now transformed, reused, recycled – cleaned, stolen back by US .. interesting.
The lineup was fantastic, (Robbi Robb, Dino Archon, Richard Stuverud, Amritakripa, Alan Swanson) all great musicians, tight sounds, and all super cool, no attitudes, everyone helping each other, just very cool. Again adding to and layering the magic. I should point out one more thing about the band "The Brew". Jason the 20 year old singer / guitarist is amazing, really, keep an eye on him. Robby will close the show inviting Jason on stage for an inspired jam. I am jumping ahead ..
Here is where you usually say the song line-up, but to be honest, this time I don't remember .. It was all one event, one tremendous jam song after song, everyone in the crowd dancing, swaying was in the energy of the night - and Robbi gave it back to us 1000 times, like the super conductor he can be.
Every time I see Tribe, I think I just saw the best show ever, that is the kind of band Tribe After Tribe is, but this was very different. This was not the same band I have seen so many times. They are always fantastic .. read the reviews, no this time it made me sit and write it down.
They were so tight, everyone was in the pocket. Layered Keyboards gave a texture that stitched everything so smoothly together, the rhythm section was as tight as I have ever seen it played .. laying down a rich heavy baseline that just oozed off the stage and hypnotized everyone's feet. And above, between, underneath and through all that, Robbi danced, howled and pulled every last emotion out of his guitar.
The guest jam sessions that extended the show to almost 2h 40m of explosive Tribe were inspiring. The good mood and great day, of the place, of the crowd all came out, as they played way past curfew. Thanks everyone, it was so energizing to be there with you, I am so very glad I was able to.
