Hannover was the last regular gig of the European tour 2003. So another gig I just couldn't miss. My girlfriend and I arrived at the venue at about 8 p.m. An old buddy of mine who came from Hamburg was already waiting for us.
I was shocked when I saw the venue. It looked damn alternative and fucked up. The same goes for the folks that were hanging around outside the venue. A very strange place! And it got even worse: We were told that the venue wanted Tribe After Tribe to open up that night. The headlining act was some shitty Reggea Ska band from Germany. It wasn't their first gig in that venue and I guess that that was the reason why Tribe should play first. As we couldn't get something to eat in the venue, the three of us left the club and went to the next pizza restaurant and had dinner.
When we came back at about 9.30 p.m. the entire Tribe family was finally there. They were busy doing the sound check. I used those minutes and introduced Robbi to my girlfriend so she finally gets an idea why I spend so many hours doing this little site. Anyways, as the venue opened at 11 p.m. there were quite a lot of minutes to kill. So we got ourselves another drink and also spent some time in the little backstage room where the band prepared for the gig.
When the gig finally started with Kelly's performance, the venue was empty! Except for the people working in the club and the Tribe family, almost nobody was around. However, when the opening theme got played about 50 people came through the doors and gathered in front of the stage. But the general atmosphere that I witnessed at the gigs in the nights before just wasn't there. The way the folks danced to the music was way different. I'm pretty sure many of them were there for the headlining band. Anyways, Tribe After Tribe got a lot of applause for their set which was shorter compared to the previous nights. They didn't play 'Uh-Oh' and 'Lazarus'.
When the set was done, I asked my girlfriend and my buddy whether they liked the set. They both did. The band was
pretty happy with their performance as well. So I guess it was just me who was a little bit disappointed. The gig
was good, that's for sure. It was just that a lot of things sucked. The venue, the headlining band, etc.
We didn't spend a lot of time with the band after their show. I was told that the guys didn't sleep too much that night even though they had to play at the RockHard festival the next day at 2 p.m. .. it seems they had a lot of fun that very night :)
