I arrived exhausted in Dresden (after five hours by train, my car broke down before) and alone, but happy. But after arriving right at the venue (Starclub) the boring part began. Half of the band and crew was still asleep at about 4.30 p.m. and so I sat down .. until Richard and Mike woke up. They invited me to join them to search some coffee - then only machine around just gave up.
As we came back without success I ran into two guys inside the Starclub and they asked me who would play that day. Another minus for the promotion agency .. bad work!
Meanwhile even the "master" woke up and wandered singing and smiling through the house, obviously gone on the place, for the club looked like an old cinema (it probably was) with velved shades and wooden wainscoting everywhere.
Later, the gig started with two local djembe players who were requested as backup on stage some more times in the following hours - a very superb performance! The set more or less stayed the same as the gig I attended two weeks earlier. The crowd requested 'In The Face Of The Sun' more than once - a fact that Robbi registered smiling but ignored it anyway. Anyway, that couldn't have been the reason why the folks kept their distance to the stage throughout the whole show - about two meters from the stage .. weird!
The set culminated into another superb 'Uh-Oh' performance with a background choir of about 80 lungs. After that song, there were some more encores before everyone left the venue being happy. Did I mention earlier why I love watching Robbi performing? It's not only the voice, not only the energy of the enjoyment of celebrating a song .. it's the little things, the whistling, giggling, humming, snarling, breathing out loud and moving like a shaman on stage - I love it :)
The end of a great day followed in the "dressing room" (?) with a Fanta / Sprite carouse because all of the alcohol was gone. But there was some cold spaghetti left ..
